A cool story that could have been a much better film, yet, it is completely likable nonetheless. It's only mildly humorous with barely any drama to progress the narrative; the wonderful cast is also underutilized and wasted on a script too tepid to leave any lasting impressions; however, for all of its shortcomings the film has a pleasant tone that is comforting and easy to watch.

I totally enjoyed this movie of faith, hope, inspirtion and believing in one's self [or in this case, a son believing in his father]. This is an old-style movie, no special effects, no high budgets, just good actors and a small budget developing into a fun watchable movie. Beautiful California vinyards highlight the visuals as friends and families struggle to find their way to the top of the wine appreciation culture. A walk down 1976 as well, which is pure exhilerating fun for me, as those days were just outright free fun in American culture. I am surprised it has not gotten better reviews, altho the subject matter may not appeal to everyone, it is a great little gem. 8.5/10

a feel good inspired life story. These movies have there place, though people taking a chance and making it seems so rare...something on par with lottery ticket winners. the many of the few. :)

For sure some of the best wines in the world, believe me I tasted quite a few when in California....this movie though was not well directed and only the usual good acting by Rickman and Pullman makes it bearable.....nowhere near Sideways.

Absolutely brilliant. Alan Rickman hasn't been in much other than the Potter films. 10/10

The moments that Alan Rickman and Denis Farina get to work, I felt like they brought their own writer. But, don't delude yourself: this isn't ashen writing.

Not a great film. Rickman is good as is Bill Puttman but everyone else is pretty awful. The writing is forced and some of the dialogue made me cringe. Particularly a speech that a hired hand gives about the "art" of winemaking. It was cliche ridden and predictable. I think if you really want to learn about the history of California wines Wikipedia is more informative and probably better written.

Tries to ride the Sideways wine wave. Fails. Judging from the final product, the filmmakers forgot to sober up when making this movie.
